Hospitality Update: Western Australia Diverse Accommodation Sector Promising

 In Blog

The Australian Bureau of Statistics released figures which highlight the very diverse hotel accommodation sector that Western Australia has to offer. In fact the figures show that the mining and metropolitan regions of Oz are outperforming the tourist regions in terms of occupancy rates.

The State Government has recently been involved in a number of tourism initiatives. One of these initiatives includes the announcement of a new regional marketing campaign to promote tourism in Western Australia. It is also aimed at promoting the upcoming event in Margaret River, Gourmet Escape which it is hoped will further boost tourism in the area.

According to statistics the south west region, which recorded an occupancy rate of 46.5 per cent in the quarter ending June 2012, is not doing as well as the others but the Perth metropolitan and North West region figures are promising.

Figures for Perth and Karratha enjoyed occupancy rates of almost 80 % in the 2ndquarted whereas figures in Margaret River did not fare so well.

Perth has maintained high rates of occupancy during the week but weekend figures were low because of the high number of business travellers in the region.

For those in the hospitality industry the aim should be trying to promote a culture of holidaying in this region rather than just  focussing on business travellers.
