Gin is no longer just for the folks at the retirement home. If the wide range of alcohol drinks on offer are not enough for you why not try some of these awesome Gin classic cocktails which are being revived for the new generation of drinkers.

Unlike vodka which is colourless and odourless, gin adds a little bit of flavour to cocktails. Try these classic but good cocktail recipes.

The classic Martini is one of the drinks that every bartender should know and there are a number of ways of making them. For example you can use gin or vodka, little or no vermouth, stirred or shaken and an olive or lemon twist garnish.

Try this classic Martini recipe:

  • a shot and a half of gin
  • half a shot of dry vermouth
  • 1 green olive or lemon twist for garnish
  • orange or Angostura bitters (optional)

  • Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice cubes.
  • Stir for 30 seconds.
  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Add a dash of orange or Angostura bitters
  • Garnish with the classic garnish, olive or lemon twist.

Another classic Gin recipe is the Aviation Cocktail. Here’s how it’s made:

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1/4 oz maraschino liqueur
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • dash of creme de violette
  • lemon peel for garnish (flamed if you wish)

  • Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  • Shake well.
  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with a flamed lemon peel.
